National meets are a great way to share our love for the mountains with each other. The MCSA organises a number of yearly recurrent multi-day camps, always in another part of the country, hosted by one of the sections. Further we partake and send delegates to international meets with other mountain clubs and associations, like the UIAA Youth Meet. All of that is a great way to see new parts of our country, or the world, and meet like-minded people while doing so. Join us next time.

National Meet

The National Meet is a yearly event that is always hosted by one of the sections and invites all MCSA member throughout the country to join in a few days of kuier en stap.

Annual Dinner

The Club’s annual dinner was hosted by Cape Town Section until 1984 when – for the first time – it was hosted by the Magaliesberg Section. On this occasion the address was by Dr The Hon G van N Viljoen, Minister of National Education. Having broken the tradition of the dinner being held in Cape Town, various Sections hosted the Annual Dinners, often to celebrate specific anniversaries or events, sometimes for no reason but for the fun of it.

July Camp

The July Camp is hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal Section and has been held for 101 years! Always in the majestic uKhahlamba Drakensberg, Campers are surrounded by magnificent scenery, dominated by towering peaks. The Camp offers dramatic and scenically rugged terrain with exhilarating hiking in the Little Berg.

Supertramp Award

The Supertramp Award has been administered since 2005 by the Magaliesberg Section of the MCSA for those young, impecunious wanderers, no older than 25 years, whose cynicism is still directed outwards, in the hope that they will purchase at least a map, and as a tribute by the donor to the voyager who was Alexander Supertramp who wisely gathered his rosebuds whilst he could.
