UIAA International Youth Meets
In 1997 the MCSA the first nominated corresponding member to the UIAA Youth Commission was accepted. Since then the MCSA has actively promoted the participation of youth members to attend Youth Commission (YC) events, which later became known as Global Youth Summits (GYS).
In 2000 the Centenary Journal Youth Fund was established – a proactive step taken by the Magaliesberg and Johannesburg Sections of the MCSA by investing a capital amount of R25 000. Annual interest earned on the capital is used to contribute to the expenses of a youth member, or members, who wish to participate in any of the GYS events. Over the years, through appeals, donations, etc., the capital fund has grown and so too the interest earned. All sections are made available of GYS events that are open to youth members. An application form has to be completed and submitted to the Youth Sub-Committee which is headed up by the YC member at the time. Once evaluated, a proposal for funding support is sent to the National Committee for endorsement/ approval.
Whilst there is no National Youth Convenor to drive youth initiatives, certain MCSA Sections have youth programmes – obviously depending on the composition of their membership!
We’ve hosted some real fun, and successful events!
